The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha (CHSE) is a higher secondary education board of
the Odisha government that was established in 1982, in accordance with the Odisha Higher Secondary
Act 1982. It comes under the Department of School and Mass Education, Odisha. The board controls
regulate and develop higher secondary education and affiliates all public as well as private schools and
colleges in the state.

CHSE provides senior high school students with three streams to pursue their studies—arts, science,
and commerce. In arts, the subjects include English Literature, Hindi, Odia, Political Science, Economics,
History, Geography, Education, Psychology, Sanskrit, Home Science, Indian, Music, Physiology, and
Anthropology. In science, the papers are English, Alternate English, Odia, Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Electronics, Computer Science, Bio-Technology, Computer Application,
Geology, and Statistics. In commerce, subjects are English, Alternate English, Odia, Accountancy,
Business Studies, and Management, among others.

The board is responsible for designing the syllabus, textbooks, and course curriculum for +2 first year
and second-year students. CHSE focuses on providing quality education by acquainting students with
up-to-date curriculum and study materials. It has included chapters relevant for national-level
competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET to help students prepare for those.
Most of the exams have a time duration of 2.5-3 hours and the total marks are 100. For subjects with
practical exams, 70 marks are for the theory paper and 30 marks are for the practical exam. For subjects
like English, Odia, Sanskrit, and Alternative English, which don’t have practical exams, the total marks
are 100.
